Charleston, SC – Branham Group, Inc. has been selected to provide engineering procurement construction (EPC) services for the upcoming expansion announced by City Roots Farm, a family-owned organic farm focused on year-round microgreen production.

City Roots Farm, established in 2009, is a family-owned organic farm located in Columbia, South Carolina, and is the state’s first urban farm. The operation utilizes greenhouse best practices and standards for growing high-quality, certified organic microgreens year-round. City Roots Microgreens can be found throughout the East Coast from restaurants to grocery retailers and food distributors.

City Roots is expanding its operation onto its newly acquired 90-acre organic farm located at 1630 Longwood Road in Pineview Industrial Park.  The new state-of-the-art carbon-neutral facility will include a 73,000 sq. ft. greenhouse, solar generation, geothermal radiant heating and cooling system, as well as a packaging and distribution facility.  The facility will boast energy-efficient lighting & controls, an annual 780,175 kWh of renewable solar energy production, and an annual 2.5 million BTUs of renewable geothermal energy.  The project is scheduled for completion in early 2024.

The projects total over 1 MW of commercial backup power and resiliency to be collocated with the clients’ existing healthcare facilities. The projects are designed to complement their sustainable energy strategy, provided through Lumenant, a technology solution firm dedicated to improving the quality of life in senior living communities.
